This program is designed to provide you with the basic information everyone needs about memory loss issues.  By providing general information, this program can serve as a jumping-off point for those interested in additional education programs that will explore aspects of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias on a deeper level.

Port Orange Beginnings and the History of Freemanville
Friday, June 28th, 2pm
Dr. Len Lempel, Professor of History at Daytona State College, will discuss the founding of Port Orange by Dr. John Milton of Hawk's Land and Lumber Company in 1866 and the hundreds of freedmen who came with him.  Dr. Lempel will also focus on the freedmen settlers and the history of Freemanville, the black community in the northeast corner of Port Orange.  Port Orange Centennial Event.

James Bond Summer Film Festival

Select Thursdays in June and July at 4pm

Dig into a James Bond Film Festival this summer at the library!  2013 is the 50th anniversary of James Bond and we're celebrating with six of the great actors who've portrayed the super spy over the past five decades.

June 13th:  Goldfinger, rated PG, 110 minutes:  Investigating a gold magnate's smuggling, Sean Connery's James Bond uncovers a plot to contaminate the Fort Knox gold reserve.

June 20:  On Her Majesty's Secret Service, rated PG, 142 minutes:  George Lazenby's James Bond woos a mob boss's daughter and goes under cover to uncover the true reason for Blofeld's allergy research in the Swiss Alps that involves beautiful women from around the world.

June 27:  The Spy Who Love Me, rated PG, 125 minutes:  Roger Moore's James Bond investigates the hijacking of British and Russian submarines carrying nuclear warheads with the help of a KGB agent whose lover he killed.

SPECIAL DAY & TIME:  Monday, July 8th, 2pm:  Skyfall, rated PG-13, 125 minutes:  Daniel Craig's Bond's loyalty to M is tested when her past comes back to haunt her.  Whilst MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

July 11:  The World is not Enough, rated PG-13, 128 minutes:  Pierce Brosnan's James Bond uncovers a nuclear plot when he protects an oil heiress from her former kidnapper, an international terrorist who can't feel pain.

July 25th:  The Living Daylights, rated PG-13, 130 minutes: Timothy Dalton's James Bond is living on the edge to stop an evil arms dealer from starting another world war.

June 3, 2013:  Robot and Frank, rated PG-13, 89 minutes:  Set in the near future, Frank, a retired cat burglar, has two grown kids who are concerned he can no longer live alone.  They are tempted to place him in a nursing home until Frank's son chooses a different option:  against the old man's wishes, he buys Frank a walking, talking humanoid robot programmed to improve his physical and mental health.  What follows is an often hilarious and heartwarming story about finding friends and family in the most unexpected places.  Frank Langella and Susan Sarandon star.

June 10, 2013:  Hyde Park on Hudson, rated R, 94 minutes:  In June 1939, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt host the King and Queen of England for a weekend at the Roosevelt home at Hyde Park on Hudson in upstate New York - the first-ever visit of a reigning English monarch to America.  With Britain facing imminent war with Germany, the Royals are desperately looking to FDR for support.  But international affairs must be juggled with the complexities of FDR's domestic establishment, as wife, mother, and mistresses all conspire to make the royal weekend an unforgettable one.  Bill Murray and Laura Linney star.  Rated R for brief sexuality.

June 17, 2013:  Cirque du Soleil--World's Away, rated PG, 91 minutes:  A young woman is entranced by an Aerialist.  When they fall into the dreamlike world of Cirque du Soleil and are separated, they travel through the different tent worlds trying to find each other.  Director Andrew Adamson teams with producer James Cameron to bring the magic of Cirque du Soleil to the big screen in this original story.

June 24, 2013:  Zero Dark Thirty, rated R, 157 minutes:  The film-making duo behind The Hurt Locker takes on the hunt for--and killing of--Osama bin Laden in the Annapurna Pictures production that tracks SEAL Team Six, the special-ops team who eventually brought down the terrorist leader.  Animal Kingdom's Joel Edgerton and The Help's Jessica Chastain head up the cast.  Rated R for strong violence including brutal disturbing images and for language.  Nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Picture.

June 2, 2013:  DisneyNature--Wings of Life, rated G, 77 minutes:  A documentary that delves into the realm of flowers and their pollinators.
