October Friends and library programs

Tuesday, October 9:  Chay & Kate Stewart:  A program on financial planning for seniors that will answer questions on life savings, life insurance, assisted living, and how to make your money last.

Friends of the Library Spooktacular Book Sale:  Friday, October 11 from 9am to 4pm and Saturday, October 12 from 9am to 1pm.

Sunday, October 13:  From Script to Stage with Karen Poulsen and Company:  Join us as Karen Poulsen discusses her forthcoming play "Defending Lizzy".  She will regale us with her in-depth research of Lizzy Borden, her family and the process leading to production.  Director Shelly Wawrzonek, cast, and crew will be on hand to perform a riveting scene from the play.  The play opens October 26 at the NSB Little Theater.

Sunday, October 20:  Country Singer Bobby Meeks brings his toe-tapping music to our auditorium.  Join us for an afternoon of joyous sounds and lots of fun!

Tuesday, October 29:  Florida's Haunted Hospitality:  Michelle Davidson gives us a tour through the 18 most haunted inns around Florida and will also offer psychic intuition about spirit energy.

Tuesday, October 1, 2013:  Tools to Quit:  An intense 2 hour seminar providing you with the tools and resources to quit smoking/tobacco use on a self-guided path to success.  Free prizes for each participant.

Friday, October 4, 2013:  Strategies to Keep You Going:  Learn custom strategies to help you achieve what is important and specific steps to deal with transitions and challenges and help you develop a healthy outlook on life.

Monday, October 14, 2013, 11am:  Eye Health with Dr. Gilmer:  Board certified Dr. William gilmer will provide information regarding vision, cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.

Tuesday, October 15:  Breast Cancer Awareness:  Breast cancer survivor and representative of the Florida Breast Cancer Institute tells her powerful story and provide a basic primer and statistics about the disease.

Friday, October 18:  Urban Sunshine:  Get educated and learn the health benefits of sprouting, juicing, wheatgrass, and raw foods, and how to grow your own sustainable food supply.

Tuesday, October 22:  Tea, Tisane, and Health:  Joyce Harris, Herbal Gourmet, will discuss the benefits and uses of teas and tisanes for a healthy lifestyle.

Friday, October 25:  The Benefits of Medicare:  Edith Clayter will discuss how Medicare can benefit those in need, including providing information on the various plans Medicare offers.

Monday, October 28, 11am:  Stress:  The Big and Big Big Picture:  Ed Eisler will present simple self stress relief methods that you can use to improve your health.  This presentation is based on his third book and a signing will follow the program.

Monday, October 7:  The Impossible, rated PG-13, 114 minutes:  Maria, Henry, and their three sons begin their winter vacation in Thailand, looking forward to a few days in tropical paradise.  But on the morning of December 26th, as the family relaxes around the pool after their Christmas festivities the night before, a terrifying roar rises up from the center of the earth.  As Maria freezes in fear, a huge wall of black water races across the hotel grounds towards her.  This film is the unforgettable account of a family caught, with tens of thousands of strangers, in the mayhem of one of the worst natural catastrophes of our time.  Naomi Watts receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her role in the film.

Monday, October 14:  Now You See Me:  rated PG-13, 115 minutes:  FBI agents track a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances and reward their audiences with the money.  Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, and Michael Caine star.

Monday, October 21:  The Europa Report, rated PG-13, 90 minutes:  Director Sebastian Cordero follows a team of intrepid space explorers to one of Jupiter's moons on a mission to investigate evidence of a subterranean ocean that could contain single-celled life in the amibitious sci-fi thriller produced in collaboration with NASA.

Monday, October 28:  Star Trek:  Into Darkness, rated PG-13, 132 minutes:  After the crew of the Enterprise finds an unstoppable force of terror form within their own organization, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

Tuesday, September 17, 2pm:  September is Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Myeloma Awareness Month.  Please join us as Maria Avenancio, MSW, of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Northern and Central Florida Chapter, presents “Cancer Treatment:  How to make informed choices about standard care and clinical trials”.  In addition to this vital topic, she will also provide information about the services offered by LLS including patient support and help for caregivers.

Monday, September 23, 10am:  Wills and Estates, Genealogy Goldmines with Jack Butler.  Genealogist Jack Butler will explain how you can find a wealth of information about your family tree by researching wills and estates.  Mr. Butler is a past president of the Florida State Genealogical Society and current president of the Florida Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists.

Thursday, September 26, 2pm:  Jane Rosenbohm:  Guitarist Extraordinaire!  Ms. Rosenbohm will brighten the afternoon with classical, Spanish, and contemporary selections with commentary on the history of the guitar and anecdotes about her life as a guitarist.

Monday, September 30, 11am:  Eisler Therapeutics.  Join us as local therapist, yoga instructor, author, and ergonomic specialist Ed Eisler presents simple self improving methods for better joint health, increased energy and vitality, improved mobility, and better posture.  His presentation is based on his second book "Higher Functioning Health and Aging."  Mr. Eisler has over 16 years experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant and served for 6 years as a massage therapist for Ultra Cyclist Rob Kish.  He was the Florida Sports Massage Therapist of the Year in 2000.  A book signing will follow his presentation.

Monday, September 9th:  The Company You Keep, rated R, 121 minutes:  A former Weather Underground activist goes on the run from a journalist who had discovered his identity.  Robert Redford, Nick Nolte, and Stanley Tucci star.  Rated R for language.

Monday, September 16th:  The Great Gatsby, rated PG-13, 143 minutes:  Nick Carraway, a Midwesterner now living on Long Island, finds himself fascinated by the mysterious past and lavish lifestyle of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby.  He is drawn into Gatsby's circle, becoming a witness to obsession and tragedy.  Leonardo Di Caprio and Carey Mulligan star.

Monday, September 23rd:  Bless Me Ultima, rated PG-13, 116 minutes:  A drama set in New Mexico during WWII centered on the relationship between a young man and an elderly medicine woman who helps him contend with the battle between good and evil that rages in his village.  Benito Martinez stars.

Monday, September 30th:  Iron Man 3, rated PG-13, 109 minutes:  Marvel Studios "Iron Man 3" pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Start/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds.  When Star finds his personal world destroyed at his enemies hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible.  Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Kingsley, and Don Cheadle star.
