Wednesday, May 1, 2013:  Know the 10 Signs of Alzheimer's:  Early Detection Matters.  Join Sharon Melton from the Central and North Florida Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association as she helps us Know the 10 Signs: early detection matters!  Early diagnosis gives people with Alzheimer’s the opportunity to make key decisions about treatment, care and planning, and the power to make choices about their own health and future. This program can increase awareness of the benefits of Alzheimer’s early detection among consumers and physicians.

Wednesday, May 8, 2013:  Historical Port Orange:  Gardner's Seafood & Ski Show. For a short period of time, the water skiing world was not centered around the professionals at Cypress Gardens. That honor belonged to a small group of Port Orange friends, cousins, and an attorney who crafted a show that would rival the decades-old tourist attraction.  Author Kent Donahue, with input from show members and fans, faithfully relates the story of landmark local restaurant Gardner's Seafoods and the ski show that brought it acclaim. Donahue is an active member of the Port Orange Historical Trust and regularly conducts lectures and radio interviews on Port Orange history.

Friday, May 10, 2013:  Medicare 101.  Turning 65 within the next three months? Judy Hahn, SHINE counselor for Volusia County, will explain what is covered under Medicare, how individual parts differ from Medicare Advantage, and how to avoid potential financial penalties if you opt in at a future date.  This program is free and open to the public.

Tuesday, May 21, 2013:  Urban Sunshine will cover all aspects of organic gardening.  We will discuss organic techniques, the soil food web, potting soils, controlling pests organically, and much more.

Friday, May 24, 2013:  Prepare for Hurricane Season. Joan Bausert, retired nurse and former Red Cross volunteer, will be here to discuss how to best be ready to deal with hurricanes.Hurricane season starts June 1, and Mrs. Bausert will provide you with all the information you need to be prepared in case the Volusia County area is affected by one of these powerful storms. Please join us for this important discussion.

Thursday, May 30, 2013:  Archaeology along the St. John's River.  The St. John's River has played an ever changing role in the lives of northeast Floridians for thousands of years.  Prehistorically, the river provided food, transportation, and a geographic connection between people living from the source of the mouth.  Historically, the river supported missions, plantations, and military outposts.  Famous archaeological sites on the river's bottom also have been discovered and add t our knowledge of Florida's past.  Viva 500/Port Orange Centennial Event.

Sunday, May 5, 2013:  Age of Champions, Unrated, 71 minutes:  Athletes prepare for the 2009 Nation Senior Games:  a 100-year old tennis player from Cape Cod, brothers from Washington, D.C., in their 80s who swim, a Texas widower who finds solace in training, and his rival, an 86-year old champion in field events intent on the world's record in the pole vault for persons over 80.  A women's basketball team from Louisiana is hair-dos and drawls off the court but tigers on.  We watch the athletes train, they talk about why they compete, family members and friends comment.

Monday, May 6, 2013:  Lincoln, PG-13, 150 minutes:  As the Civil War continues to rage, America's president struggles with continuing carnage on the battlefield as he fights with many inside his own cabinet on the decision to emancipate the slaves.  This film chronicles the President's time in office between 1861 and 1865 as he dealt with personal demons and politics during the Civil War.  Daniel Day-Lewis received the Best Actor Academy Award for his portrayal of President Lincoln.

Monday, May 13, 2013:  The Hobbit:  An Unexpected Journey, Rated PG-13, 169 minutes:  A younger and more reluctant Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins sets out on an "unexpected journey" to the Lonely Mountain with a spirited group of Dwarfs to reclaim their stolen mountain home from a dragon named Smaug.

Monday, May 20, 2013:  Jack Reacher, PG-13, 130 minutes:  A homicide investigator digs deeper into a case involving a trained military sniper who sot five random victims.  Tom Cruise stars.  Based on the character created by novelist Lee Child.

Pre-School Programs
TODDLER STORY TIME is for children ages 2 to 3. Adults and children experience the opportunity for playful enjoyment in songs, stories, activities, and crafts with a musical twist.  April 16 - Puppet Show “Goldilocks”
PRE-SCHOOL STORY TIME is for children ages 3 to 5.  Come enjoy stories and musical activities.  Be prepared to shake your sillies out!  April 17 - Puppet Show “Goldilocks”
PRE-SCHOOL POWER! is a fitness program for children ages 2 to 5 designed to help improve coordination,
motor skills, rhythm and flexibility while adults and children dance, march, shake, stretch, wiggle, clap and move!
MOTHER GOOSE STORY TIME is for babes in arm and babies who haven’t quite mastered the art of walking. Join us for songs, bouncing rhymes, finger plays and much more!
TINY TOT STORY TIME is for walking tots up to 24 months.  Children and adults connect while singing songs, listening to stories, engaging in play, and making music together!

After School Programs
AMERICAN GIRLS CLUB is for children in 2nd - 5th grades.  Let’s meet Cecile & Marie-Grace this month!  Read any of their stories before the meeting.  Make a craft and enjoy refreshments, too!  You do not have to have an American Girl doll to attend, but dolls are welcome to join us!  Pre-register, as space is limited!
BLOOMIN’ LOOMERS Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned loom knitter, join us for knitting on looms.
Elementary students through adults of all ages are encouraged to attend! You supply the loom and knitting tool; the library will supply the yarn! Call 386-322-5152 ext. 30 for more information.
CHESS CLUB is for children of all ages that want to learn or know how to play chess!  There are many benefits of playing chess, such as improved decision making, attention, focus, and test scores!
CONSTRUCT A TABLE is for children of all ages who want to build a table using paper towel and toilet paper rolls, newspapers, and cardboard! Come and join us for the fun!
LEGO BRICKMASTERS Report to the Construction Zone for fun the whole family will enjoy!
READing Paws is for Elementary-aged children. They will have the opportunity to read to Carly! She is an

SPEED READ STACKERS CUPSTACKING CLUB is for school aged children that want some fast fun! No skills, equipment, or fees needed to participate!
STORY + ORIGAMI = STORIGAMI  is for elementary aged children that would like to listen to a story and make a paper folding craft.  Pre-register, as space is limited!
