Genealogy research through newspapers used to be a tedious and difficult process. Now there is an ever expanding source of digitized newspapers that can enable your ancestors to be found with a click of a mouse. Join Librarian Richard Burrow as he demonstrates the power of newsprint digitization and the way it is changing genealogical research.


Friday, August 23rd, 10am:  Civil War Program
Ron Alcorn and friends will present a program on the Civil War. During this program you will see some of the weapons a solider used, including a homemade cannon.  Learn about what the soldiers needed to carry with them at all times and also what they ate while at war. Ron will also talk about the many Civil War reenactments around Florida each year.

Monday, August 26th, 11am:  All About Immunizations
August is National Immunization Awareness Month so please join us as representatives from the Volusia County Health Department provide valuable information on this very important topic.

Friday, August 30th, 2pm:  Native American Tribes of Florida
Jim Sawgrass is a native Floridian and a member of the Muskogee Creek Indian Tribe. He served on the Florida Indian Council from 1991-1995. Sawgrass has been sharing his knowledge of the Southeastern Native American tribes for over 25 years.

Sunday, August 11th:  DisneyNature:  Wings of Life, rated G, 77 minutes:  The secret lives of bats, butterflies, hummingbirds, and bumblebees come to life before our eyes as Schwartzberg and his talented team highlight how the determination and interdependence of these diminutive creatures somehow keep our chaotic world in balance.

Monday, August 12th:  Oblivion, rated PG-13, 124 minutes:  A solitary drone repairman working on a war-ravaged planet Earth becomes humanity's last hop for survival in this ambitious sci-fi epic from Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski.  Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman start.

Monday, August 19th:  Jack the Giant Slayer, rated PG-13, 114 minutes:  This film tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants.  Ewan McGregor and Stanley Tucci star.

Monday August 26th:  Olympus Has Fallen, rated R, 120 minutes:  In the aftermath of a tragic accident involving the president and the first lady, Secret Service agent Mike Banning is handed his walking papers.  When a powerful terrorist group seizes command of the White House and takes the president hostage, the entire nation watches as the Speaker of the House becomes the acting president and plans for his response.  Meanwhile, Banning finds himself trapped in the White House as it comes under siege from all sides.  Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman star.  Rated R for strong violence and language throughout.
