March Friends and Library Programs



Thursday, March 1 – 2:00 p.m.:  The Music of Billy Kemp.  The Baltimore native and East Nashville resident performs passionate home-made songs on guitar, banjo and piano that are mostly roots music. Billy is an experienced solo performer having toured worldwide for thirty years. Sponsored by the Friends of the Port Orange Regional Library.

Mondays – 10:00 a.m.Scrabble Club. Test your Scrabble skills against other players in our community.  Please note the time change.

Mondays – 10:30 a.m.: Monday Chair Yoga/Tai Chi at the Library. Join us as certified fitness instructor Ed Eisler leads us through a Chair Yoga/Tai Chi program, beginner through advanced. This program repeats every Monday. Please note the time change.


Tuesday, March 6 – 2:00 p.m.:  Protect Florida Democracy.  This program from the Florida Bar aims to deepen the public’s understanding of the constitution revision process in Florida.   The entire Florida Constitution is subject to change in this revision process, and our state’s future depends on how well its residents pay attention, get involved and understand the impact of amending the state’s charter document. Sponsored by the Friends of the Port Orange Regional Library.

Friday, March 9 – 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.: Adult Coloring for Relaxation.  Coloring isn’t just for kids anymore!  Supplies will be provided, or feel free to bring your own project! Please note the time change.


Friday, March 9
2:00 p.m.Flamenco/Classical Guitarist Gladius. Please join us as guitarist Gladius presents an afternoon of Flamenco and Classical music. Direct from South Georgia, Gladius is here at the Port Orange Regional Library to share his amazing talent with us. Sponsored by the Friends of the Port Orange Regional Library.

Thursday, March 15 6:00 p.m.: Science Fiction Book Club. This month's book is Waking Hell by Al Robertson. Please note the time change.


Friday, March 16 – 3:00 p.m.: The Kilted Man. Get swept up by tales of wayward voyages, unrequited love, and the colorful lives of common people.  Scottish-born Matthew Gurnsey, better known as The Kilted Man, will sing and perform traditional Irish and Scottish music.  His Celtic instruments include the concertina, bodhran, bones, mandolin, penny whistle and bowed psaltery.  This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Port Orange Library.  Please note the time change.

Tuesday, March 20
– 2:00 p.m.: Master Gardener Plant Clinic. UF/IFAS Master Gardeners share gardening tips and answer questions during the plant clinic. Residents can bring their plants for a free check-up.

Tuesday, March 20 4:30-6:30 p.m.: Green Screen Easter Photos. Come pose in front of our Mobile S.T.E.A.M. Lab green screen for an Easter photo! You will be able to choose from a variety of backgrounds for a picture that you can give your family and friends. Feel free to bring props and dress up in any color except green! Families welcome! Please note the time change.

Friday, March 23
– 2:00 p.m.Photo Editing with the Green Screen and GIMP.  During this hands-on program for adults, participants will learn how to use a selection of props to create an image with the green screen and they manipulate the background of the image with GIMP.  Space is limited and registration is required.

Thursday, March 29 – Noon
The Daniel Bennett Group Jazz Instrumentalists. Saxophonist Daniel Bennett has been hailed as one of the most original and unpredictable musical voices of his generation. Joined by renowned guitarist Nat Janoff and master percussionist Matthew Feick, the Daniel Bennett Group's music has been described as a mix of jazz, avant-pop, and surf rock. The group performs every month at Tomi Jazz in Manhattan and has been featured in the Washington Post, Boston Globe, and Village Voice.
