April Friends and Library Programs

Please note: The library will be closed April 1st for Easter Sunday.
(We will be open on Saturday, March 31st and Monday, April 2nd.)

The library will also be closed on Saturday, April 21st and Sunday, April 22nd for the Lakeside Jazz and Art Festival.

Mondays – 10:00 a.m.: Scrabble Club. Test your Scrabble skills against other players in our community.

Mondays
10:30 a.m.: Monday Chair Yoga at the Library.  Join us as certified fitness instructor Ed Eisler leads us through a Chair Yoga program, beginner thru advanced. No class April 2nd or April 9th.

Tuesday, April 3 – 2:00 p.m.: Journey’s End Pet Sanctuary. Come join us to learn about one of Volusia County's best kept secrets: Journey's End Animal Sanctuary. Journey's End founder, Florence Thuot, will talk about the sanctuary's mission to provide a loving, comfortable home to abused, neglected, and special needs animals. Attendees will get to meet several of the animals that call Journey's End home. Come hear their amazing stories!


Thursday, April 12 – 2:00 p.m.: Songstress Shannon Rae. You are invited to a session of smiles and memories. Shannon Rae sings songs that we all remember from the 40s into the 70s. Sponsored by the Friends of the Port Orange Regional Library.


Friday, April 13 – 2:00 p.m.: Autism and the Microbiome:  Understanding the Mysterious Gut-Brain Connection. April is Autism Awareness Month.  Presented by Dr. Jayme Frear of New Journey Chiropractic. Learn about the link between gut damage, increased toxicity, and autism. Discover how chiropractic can help ensure a properly functioning nervous system and release the body's natural healing ability. Dr. Frear will also discuss how diet affects autism and will offer helpful food and supplement suggestions. Complimentary “Autism Approved” product samples will be available.


Tuesday, April 17 – 2:00 p.m.: Master Gardener Plant Clinic. UF/IFAS Master Gardeners share gardening tips and answer questions during the plant clinic. Residents can bring their plants for a free check-up.


Wednesday, April 18 – 10:30 a.m.: Port Orange Regional Library Book Club. This month's book is A Piece of the World by Christina Baker Kline.

Thursday, April 19 – 6:00 p.m.: Science Fiction Book Club. This month's book is Tomorrow's Kin by Nancy Kress. 

Tuesday, April 24 – 2:00 p.m.: Outsmart the Scammers.  Incidents of fraud are on the rise and scammers' tactics are becoming more complex.  Tiffany Kuzma, Financial Advisor at Edward Jones, discusses how to spot red flags, the resources you can turn to in the event you or a loved one is targeted, and steps you can take now to help protect yourself and your loved ones. Thursday, April 26—10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.: Knitting Club. Calling all knitters, we’re starting a knitting club! Socialize and share your wisdom! Everyone one from never-held-a-needle-novice to advanced knitters are welcome. Feel free to bring your own projects, or use our yarn and needles during the program!

Thursday, April 26 – 2:00 p.m.: Six Mistakes Retirees Make with Their Finances.  Please join us as Andrew Schorr of R.L.K. Advisory Group discusses issues such as annuities, historical market trends, life expectancy, investment fees, and more. Sponsored by the Friends of the Port Orange Regional Library. Friday, April 27 – 2:00 p.m.: How to Travel on a Budget. With years of experience in the travel industry and a knack for planning travel experiences for larger groups, local travel agent Lauren Morris will discuss methods for sticking to a budget while traveling.
