June Friends and Library Programs

Monday Scrabble – 10:00 a.m.Scrabble Club. Test your Scrabble skills against other players in our community.


Mondays 10:30 a.m.: Monday Chair Yoga/Tai Chi at the Library.  Join us as certified fitness instructor Ed Eisler leads us through a Chair Yoga/Tai Chi program, beginner thru advanced. This program repeats every Monday.

Tuesday, June 5 2:00 p.m.Floridian Cuisine—Quick and Healthy Meals Using Local Ingredients.  Chef Warren Caterson will help you learn how to create delicious meals using a variety of seafood, poultry, and meat with locally grown fruits and vegetables.

Friday, June 8
2:00 p.m.Jackson Creek String Band. Led by husband and wife duo Joe Waller on the guitar and Katie Waller on the fiddle, Jackson Creek plays a dynamic blend of folk music, bluegrass, old-time dance songs, and fiddle tunes that has delighted audiences all over Florida. Join us for a toe-tapping, finger-snapping performance by one of Central Florida's favorite bands! Sponsored by the Friends of the Port Orange Regional Library.

Saturday, June 9
2:00 p.m.Cutting the Cable Cord.  Explore alternatives to subscribing to a cable company to reduce your television bill.  With new options available to stream television in place of the cable box, many people save money each month by canceling their cable subscription. This program will introduce you to what you need to start streaming television.

Tuesday, June 12
2:00 p.m.: World War I:  Operation Michael and the Last German Offensive. Presented by Librarian Richard Burrow.  This was German’s final attempt to win the war.  Librarian Richard Burrow presents a program that discusses the events and causes leading up to this titanic effort, as well as the execution and results of the offensives.

Tuesday, June 19
2:00 p.m.: Master Gardener Plant Clinic. UF/IFAS Master Gardeners share gardening tips and answer questions during the plant clinic. Residents can bring their plants for a free check-up.

Wednesday, June 20 – 3:00 p.m.Family Rock Painting.  Paint kindness rocks to take home or hide for others, then find rocks hidden inside and outside the library!  All ages welcome.  Please note time change.
 

Thursday, June 21 – 10:00 a.m.Knitting Club: Calling all knitters (and lovers of fiber arts,) we’ve started a knitting club! Socialize and share your wisdom! Everyone one from never-held-a-needle-novice to advanced knitters are welcome. Feel free to bring your own projects, or use our yarn and needles during the program!

Thursday, June 21 – 6:00 p.m.Science Fiction Book Club.  This month’s book is Last Iota by Richard Kroese.

Friday, June 22 2:00 p.m.Musical Group The Porchdogs. Specializing in Louisiana Cajun and zydeco, swamp pop, and New Orleans R&B since 1992, The Porchdogs are back for another show at Port Orange.

Tuesday, June 26 – 10:00 a.m.Painting Class.  Create and take! Join us June 26th at 10 a.m. for a for a fun summer themed painting class facilitated by an artist librarian! Spots are limited. Registration is limited so sign up with the reference desk today! Supplies are provided.
