September Friends and Library Programs

Monday Scrabble – 10:00 a.m.:  Scrabble Club. Test your Scrabble skills against other players in our community.

Mondays - 10:30 a.m.: Monday Chair Yoga/Tai Chi at the Library.  Join us as certified fitness instructor Ed Eisler leads us through a Chair Yoga/Tai Chi program, beginner thru advanced. This program repeats every Monday.

Tuesday, September 4 – 2:00 p.m.: Caring for Bromeliads.  Jay Thurrott of the Florida East Coast Bromeliad Society discusses the care of Bromeliads and takes questions from the audience.

Thursday, September 6 – 2:00 p.m.: Identity Theft. This presentation is from the Florida Office of the Attorney General and is designed to inform and provide suggestions on ways to better protect personal identifiable information (PII).  Identity Theft is a crime that continues to rise each year in the State of Florida and can be damaging not only to an individual but to businesses and their customers as well.  Please join us!  Theresa Adlam, the presenter, is a Victim Services Program Specialist on Identity Theft.

Wednesday, September 12 – 10:00 a.m.:  Robotics for Adults. Feeling left behind by your kids? Are your grandchildren talking about things you just don’t understand? Come to this robotics program to learn the basics of coding – just like what the kids are doing at school! Participants will discover how to code using Ozobots at the Port Orange Library. Thursday, September 13 – 2:00 p.m.:  Irene Curran presents Agatha Christie. Join us as literary lecturer Irene Curran talks about Agatha Christie's life, marriage, and the mystery of her eleven day disappearance. Was it a ploy to sell more books, or something darker?

Tuesday, September 18 2:00 p.m.: Butterfly Gardening + Ask a Master Gardener. UF/IFAS Master Gardeners share gardening tips and answer questions about butterfly gardening. Residents can bring their plants for a free check-up during the Ask a Master Gardener segment.

Wednesday, September 19 – 10:30 a.m.: Port Orange Regional Library Book Club. This month's book is Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate.

Thursday, September 20 – 6:00 p.m.: Science Fiction Book Club. This month's book is Gunpowder Moon by David Pedreira. 

Thursday, September 25 – 10 a.m.:  Paper Crafting Club. Calling all paper crafters! Join us for a morning of paper crafting with fellow creative minds. We will provide supplies for a simple craft, or bring your own projects to work on!

Thursday, September 27 – 10 a.m.:  Knitting Club. Calling all knitters (and fans of other fiber arts), we’ve started a knitting club! Socialize and share your wisdom! Everyone from never-held-a-needle-novice to advanced knitters are welcome. Feel free to bring your own projects, or use our yarn and needles during the program!

Thursday, September 27 – 2 p.m.:  Fold3 for Genealogy.  Librarian Richard Burrow explains how to use the Fold3 database to search for information about your ancestors.  Fold3 combines an unprecedented collection of original historical documents and personal histories including convenient access to US military records.  Space is limited and registration is required. Friday, September 28 – 2 p.m.: Sandy Back Porch Musical Group. The Sandy Back Porch band performs time-honored bluegrass standards played the way they were meant to be played. With a hard-driving, lightning fast blend of guitar, banjo, fiddle, and bass, they will bring a smile to your face and a tap to your toes with an engaging and entertaining performance.
