March Friends and Library Programs

Mondays - 9:15 a.m.: Monday Chair Yoga/Tai Chi at the Library.  Join us as certified fitness instructor Ed Eisler leads us through a Chair Yoga program, beginner thru advanced. This program repeats every Monday.

March 5 – 2 p.m.:  Irish Cuisine – It’s Not an Oxymoron! People rarely put the word’s ‘Irish’ and ‘cuisine’ in the same sentence. Move beyond corned beef and cabbage and learn how this creative and healthy cuisine can be a part of your diet beyond St. Patrick’s Day.  Presented by Chef Warren Caterson.

March 8 – 2 p.m.:  Musician Billy Kemp. The Port Orange Regional Library welcomes back Billy Kemp for another round of song and story. Join us for a performance by this Nashville based folk-singer and settle in for an afternoon of delight.

March 13 –10:30 a.m.:  DIY Wednesday:  Introducing Creativebug. Stop by to learn all about the library’s newest crafting resource!

March 14 – 10 a.m.:  Knitting Club. Calling all knitters (and fans of other fiber arts), we’ve started a knitting club! Socialize and share your wisdom! Everyone from never-held-a-needle-novice to advanced knitters are welcome. Feel free to bring your own projects, or use our yarn and needles during the program!

March 15 – 3 p.m.:  Guitarist Gladius.  Please join us as guitarist Gladius presents an afternoon of Flamenco and Classical music. Direct from South Georgia, Gladius is here at the Port Orange Regional Library to share his amazing talent with us.

March 17 – 2 p.m.:  Classical Guitarist Peter Fletcher. Mr. Fletcher is a nationally renowned classical guitarist having played Carnegie Hall and other major venues.  Please join us for an afternoon of beautiful classical music featuring selections from Peter’s albums.

March 19 – 2 p.m.: Master Gardener Plant Clinic. UF/IFAS Master Gardeners share gardening tips and answer questions during the plant clinic. Residents can bring their plants for a free check-up.

March 21 – 2 p.m.:  Dianne Jacoby presents “Florida:  the First 450 Years.” Dianne Jacoby presents the history of Florida with beautifully costumed portrayals of two of Florida's famous, historical women. Dona Maria de Menendez, illegitimate daughter of the founder of St. Augustine, tells tales of Florida's Conquistadors and the colony's desperate struggle to survive. Mary Lily Kenan, wife of Henry Flagler, recalls Florida's historic journey from territory to statehood, including bloody battles, warfare, and pirates.

March 22 – 2 p.m.:  The Storytelling Sims present Irish Tales. Mirth and merriment are two words as associated with the lore of the Irish as are Leprechauns and shamrocks. Join us for some pure Irish fun as the Storytelling Sims delve into the world of Irish folklore.

March 26 – 10 a.m.:  Paper Craft Club. Calling all paper crafters! Join us for a morning of paper crafting with fellow creative minds. We will provide supplies for a simple craft, or bring your own projects to work on!

March 26 – 2 p.m.:  Fourth Tuesday Tai Chi.  Join us as personal fitness instructor Ed Eisler presents a Tai Chi exercise program suitable for all levels.

March 28 – 2 p.m.:  The Squirrel Hillbillies - Duo partners Jenny Wolsk and Gary Crouth draw from personal experiences, third-hand stories, and vivid imaginations to craft acoustic folk, country, and blues songs that are unpredictable and quirky, yet widely accessible. Join us as they perform for the first time here at the Port Orange Regional Library!

March 31 – 2 p.m.:  Volusia Community Symphony. The Volusia Community Symphony is a volunteer orchestra comprised of intermediate and experienced musicians, as well as aspiring middle and high school students, performing genre pieces ranging from light classical, Broadway, to movie soundtracks.
