April Friends and Library programs

Mondays – 9:15 a.m.: Monday Chair Yoga/Tai Chi at the Library.  Join us as certified fitness instructor Ed Eisler leads us through a Chair Yoga program, beginner thru advanced. This program repeats every Monday.

April 2 – 2 p.m.:  Personal Branding:  Seven Tips on How to Stand Out from the Crowd. Presented by Cheryl Henchar of Cheryl’s Creative Services.

April 2 – 5:30:  Credit 101 with Financial Wellness Coordinator Scott Doss. Credit can be your friend or your enemy. In this presentation, you will learn what credit means, why it is important, how to clean up bad credit, and how to establish good credit.

April 3 – 10 a.m.:  DIY Wednesday:  Paint and Decorate Your Own Piggy Bank.  Paint and decorate a piggy bank in this Money Smart Week program.  Supplies provided but space is limited.  Please stop by or call the library at 386-322-5152 option 4 to register.

April 4 – 2 p.m.:  All About the Gopher Tortoise. Florida's Gopher Tortoise, a state protected species, plays a very important role in the sustainability of Florida ecosystems.  Discover ways that you can help ensure the tortoise survives and why protecting them is so important.  There will be discussion on what homeowners can and should do when a tortoise has chosen their yard to live in.  A one hour slide and film session is planned for April 4th at 2:00pm to be presented by Nancy Hull, FMNP Master Naturalist.

April 4 – 10:00 a.m.: Six Mistakes Retirees Make with their Finances. Please join us as Andrew Schorr of R.L.K. Advisory Group discusses issues such as annuities, historical market trends, life expectancy, investment fees, and more.

April 4 – 5:30 p.m.:  Savings 101 with Financial Wellness Coordinator Scott Doss. In this presentation, you will learn how to create a budgeting process that will work for you and get you on track to meet your own personal financial goals.  You will learn how to save—no matter your income level, amount of debt, or fear of the process.

April 5 – 11 a.m.:  Estate Planning and How to Avoid Probate. Elder Law Attorney Randal L. Schecter presents essential information about estate planning in Florida.  Mr. Schecter has been in practice for 33 years and is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys.

April 9 – 2 p.m.:  Irene Curran presents Robert Frost. Literary Lecturer Irene Curran is back, and we'll be celebrating National Poetry Month with this program about the life, poetry, and legacy of one of America's most celebrated and beloved poets.

April 11 – 10 a.m.:  Knitting Club. Calling all knitters (and fans of other fiber arts), we’ve started a knitting club! Socialize and share your wisdom! Everyone from never-held-a-needle-novice to advanced knitters are welcome. Feel free to bring your own projects, or use our yarn and needles during the program!

April 16 – 2 p.m.: Master Gardener Plant Clinic. UF/IFAS Master Gardeners share gardening tips and answer questions during the plant clinic. Residents can bring their plants for a free check-up.

April 18 – 6 p.m.: Science Fiction Book Club.  This month’s book is The Waking Engine by David Edison.

April 23 – 2 p.m.:  Fourth Tuesday Tai Chi. Join us as personal fitness instructor Ed Eisler presents a Tai Chi exercise program suitable for all levels.

April 25 -- 2 p.m.: Fantastic Archaeology: Florida Frauds, Myths, and Mysteries. Celebrate Florida archaeology by learning what archaeology is, and more importantly, what it is not. This educational and entertaining talk will focus on the misuse and abuse of Florida's past. Moving from historical to modern-day examples, Emily Murray, from the Florida Public Archaeology Network, discusses the many ways that a belief in falsehoods can be dangerous.

April 30 – 10 a.m.:  Paper Crafting Club. Calling all paper crafters! Join us for a morning of paper crafting with fellow creative minds. We will provide supplies for a simple craft, or bring your own projects to work on!
