Cooking Club
September 10 – 12:00 p.m.
 Join us for a meeting of our monthly cooking club! This month's theme is: Brunch! Bring your favorite dish to share (appetizer, salad, main dish, side dish, or dessert) along with the recipe.

Irene Curran presents Amelia Earhart
September 10 – 2:00 p.m.
What happened to Amelia Earhart on her final, fateful flight? Literary Lecturer Irene Curran joins us to discuss some theories, and teach us about her life.

Genealogy Lab
September 11 – 9:30 a.m.
Familiar with Ancestry.com, Fold3, or Heritage Quest Online but need some assistance?  Register for our Genealogy Lab.  Use our laptops or your own for dedicated genealogy research with library databases.  Space is limited and registration is required.  Walk ins welcome if space is available.

Knitting Club
September 12 – 10:00 a.m.
Calling all knitters (and fans of other fiber arts), we’ve started a knitting club! Socialize and share your wisdom! Everyone from never-held-a-needle-novice to advanced knitters are welcome. Feel free to bring your own projects, or use our yarn and needles during the program!

Writer’s Workshop:  Getting Started Writing Nonfiction
September 13 – 2:00 p.m.
Dr. Mary Custureri, President of the Daytona Writer’s Guild, and Dr. Lynn Hawkins, local author and professor, will discuss the steps to take to begin writing nonfiction books.

Healthy Living Group
September 14 and 21 –11:00 a.m.
Do you need to lose a few pounds, want to reverse diabetes, or learn how to make better food choices for optimal health?  Registered dietician Sharon Herr will lead a group discussion on the benefits of healthy living and how you can get started on the path to good health.

Ask a Master Gardener
September 17 – 2:00 p.m.
UF/IFAS Master Gardeners share gardening tips and answer questions during the plant clinic. Residents can bring their plants for a free check-up.

Port Orange Regional Library Book Club
September 18 –10:30 a.m.
This month’s book is The Lighthouse Keeper’s Daughter by Hazel Gaynor.

Secrets of a Pirate Queen
September 19 – 2:00 p.m.
Historical dramatist Dianne Jacoby portrays boisterous female pirate Anne Bonney who tells her story as the infamous Irish Pirate Queen who cut a bloody swath through the Caribbean.  In this rollicking interactive performance, Anne shares fierce stories of life at sea off the coast of Florida and the Bahamas during the Golden Age of Piracy.

Science Fiction Book Club
September 19 – 6:00 p.m.
This month’s book is Ancestral Night by Elizabeth Bear.

Fun with Cats
September 20 - 2:00 p.m.
Marcia Helm, Animal Behaviorist Manager at Halifax Humane Society will discuss cat enrichment and how to make their lives more fun. The cats benefit but also the cats are more mentally stimulated so the owners benefit by seeing less naughty behavior.

Halifax Humane Society Cat and Kitten Adoption
September 21 – 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
September is Happy Cat Month! Don't have a cat? No problem! Halifax Humane Society will be here with Cats and Kittens needing a good home. Come by and adopt one Today! Donations of Cat related items will be given to the Humane Society. Please drop off any donations by 2pm.

Paper Craft Club
September 24 – 10:00 a.m.
Come express your creativity and design something beautiful! Paper crafters of all skill levels are welcome and are encouraged to share their knowledge and skills with others. Use our supplies or feel free to bring your own!

DIY Wednesday—Building Cat Castles and Kitty Abodes
September 25 – 10:00 a.m.
Learn how to transform a cardboard box into a castle fit for your cat or build your own special house for your kitty.  Supplies limited.  Registration required.

A Florida Shipwreck through Time
September 26 - 2:00 p.m.
Join us to be taken through the stages of a shipwreck--from ship construction to underwater museum. The issue of piracy in archaeology will also be addressed, as well as expanding known submerged resources beyond maritime themes.

Cake Decorating Basics
September 27 - 10:00 a.m.
Join us for an introduction to basic cake decorating techniques. Learn about different piping tips and how to use them to create borders, letters, shapes, and other designs. Supplies will be provided and registration is required.

Thurgood
September 27 - 2:00 p.m.
Larry Murphy, a local actor and director of the non profit Spreading Chess and Culture Inc, will perform the one act Broadway play Thurgood, a superb, compelling, and engrossing biography of America's first African-American U.S. Supreme Court Justice.
