Florida Forts: On the Edge of Empire. 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 11. In this presentation from J. “Zach” Zacharias, Curator of History and Natural History at the Museum of Arts and Sciences, you’ll discover the amazing forts that now sit as relics of a bygone era of Florida, a time when the Spanish, English, French, and Americans built major fortifications to control the all-important strategic peninsula. You’ll learn about Fort Caroline, Fort Clinch, St. Augustine Castillo, Fort Pickens, Fort Christmas, and many more. Mr. Zacharias will host a book signing following the event. The World’s Most Noteworthy Lighthouses. 2 p.m. Thursday, January 20. Ponce Inlet Lighthouse Lead Docent and inveterate pharologist John Mann will take you, through photography and discussion, on a 3000-year journey to some of the world’s most noteworthy lighthouses including the National Historic Ponce Inlet Lighthouse. Mr. Mann has visited and photographed over 2000 of these amazing “Sentinels of the Sea” and will be here to share his experiences with you. Reservations are not required.
