July 2023 Programs at the Library

 

Living By The Stream:  An Independence Day Concert. 2 p.m. Monday, July 3. Using the tones of violin, vocal, and guitar, Living By The Stream will take us on a venture through the anthems and songs that have formed the backbone of American life and ignited the hearts of U.S. patriots throughout time. 

 Trivia Night. 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 5. Do you know random facts and information? Do you like to test your knowledge against others? If so, this is the event for you. Come test the limits of your knowledge during our general trivia night at the Port Orange Regional Library.

 DIY Home, Health, and Body. 11 a.m. Thursday, July 6. Long week worn you out? Come and join us as we create one or two skincare, cosmetic, and homecare products while learning the health benefits of the ingredients used, all in a relaxed environment.  Registration is required.

 Hurricane Preparedness. 2 p.m. Thursday, July 6. Learn what you need to do to prepare for hurricane season with Linda Collis of the American Red Cross.

 CANCELLED Haunts of Florida. 2 p.m. Saturday, July 8. Dr. Jamie Pearce PhD, is the founder of Historic Haunts Investigations. She has been professionally involved with the paranormal for over 25 years, is a Paranormal Investigator, and has a PhD in Parapsychology.  She is also a member of several different paranormal and psychic research organizations, historic foundations, and writer's groups.

 Career OneSource Workshop. 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 12. Learn about the resources offered by Career OneSource and receive help with your job search. Registration is required.

 Living Your Best Life: A Monthly Health and Wellness Series by Anne S. Tracy, R.N. of Halifax Health. 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 12. Anne S. Tracy, R.N. of Halifax Health, provides information related to your health and wellbeing. July's topic is Sunshine: Friend or Foe?

 Tiny Art Workshop. Noon Tuesday, July 11. In this workshop featuring tiny canvases, we will provide the canvas and supplies, you will create the art!  Create a tiny masterpiece to be displayed during our Tiny Art Show. Reservations are required. Can’t make it to the workshop?  Stop by the Reference Desk to pick up a canvas to take home, decorate, and return.

 Friends of the Library Book Sale. 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 14 and Saturday, July 15. You’ll find gently used books, dvds, vhs tapes, magazines, puzzles, and more at this book sale, sponsored by the Friends of the Port Orange Library.  All proceeds benefit the library.

 Introduction to Cricut. 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 18. Have you heard about the Cricut, but are curious as to what it can actually do? Learn all about the Cricut during this informational presentation. Topics covered include: the types of Cricut machines, additional tools available, and how to create a project. Sponsored by the Friends of the Port Orange Library.

 Ask a Master Gardener.  2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 18.  UF/IFAS Master Gardeners will share gardening tips and answer questions during the Ask a Master Gardener session. Residents can bring their plants for a free check-up.

 Wright in Your Backyard. 2 p.m. Thursday, July 20. Master Storyteller Timothy Totten will present Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural marvels in Florida, including some that are not far from Volusia County.

 Owl Together Now. 10 a.m. Saturday, July 22. Gina Holt from Wild About Birds, Inc. will talk to us about birds of prey in Florida, how to identify them and where you are likely to see them. Don't worry, your backyard birds will also be discussed as well as the native plants that our song birds need to survive and thrive. With Special Guests Mr. Frodo and Miko.

 All about the Council on Aging. 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 25. Join us as Doreen Willett from the Council on Aging of Volusia County gives an overview of services offered to Volusia County seniors. COA is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing services that enable Volusia County seniors to maintain their independence and remain in their own homes. This program is for ages 12 and up.

 Paper Craft Club plus Adult Coloring. 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 25Come express your creativity and design something beautiful! Paper crafters of all skill levels are welcome and are encouraged to share their knowledge and skills with others. Use our supplies or feel free to bring your own!

 Digital Downloads Drop-In Clinic. 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 27. Did you know that you can download library eBooks, eAudiobooks, movies and television shows, music and comics to your phone, eReader tablet or computer? Drop by to receive assistance with using our digital collection. Bring your device and your questions.

 All About Medicare presented by SHINE. 2 p.m. Thursday, July 27. Learn about the Medicare options that are available to you in this presentation from SHINE advocate Carrie Ann Petesch. SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs for Elders) is a free program offered by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs

Tiny Art Show. Stop by and celebrate the art of our community in our Tiny Art Show!  Artists have created teeny tiny masterpieces and put them on display for all to enjoy. Come show your support for our local artists during the exhibition which will run from July 24th through August 5th.

CANCELLEDGenealogy Interest Group. 2 p.m. Friday, July 28. This is an informal space where you can meet and work with other family historians in a small group setting. Basic assistance with genealogy research is available. Feel free to bring your own laptop or device.  Please call 386-322-5152, option 4 to reserve a library laptop.  A very limited number are available for reservation, so call soon!  Reservations are not required to attend the session.
