May Friends and library programs

Mondays – 9:15 a.m.: Monday Chair Yoga/Tai Chi at the Library.  Join us as certified fitness instructor Ed Eisler leads us through a Chair Yoga program, beginner thru advanced. This program repeats every Monday.

May 1 – 10 a.m.:  DIY Wednesday:  Paper Hydrangeas! Learn to make beautiful paper hydrangeas, just in time for Mother’s Day.  Supplies are provided so registration is required.  Contact the library at 386-322-5152 option 4 to register.

May 2 – 2 p.m.:  Sandy Back Porch. Welcome back the Sandy Back Porch Band! Hear time-honored bluegrass standards played the way they were meant to be during this entertaining and engaging performance! 

May 4 – 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.:  How-to Festival. Learn something new in as little as 30 minutes with a local expert!  Learn how to perfectly frost a cake, use a telescope, improve your photos, declutter your home, train a therapy dog, collect and pin insects, and much more!

May 9 – 10 a.m.:  Knitting Club: Calling all knitters (and fans of other fiber arts), we’ve started a knitting club! Socialize and share your wisdom! Everyone from never-held-a-needle-novice to advanced knitters are welcome. Feel free to bring your own projects, or use our yarn and needles during the program!

May 9 – 2 p.m.:  Plants of the Canaveral National Seashore. This presentation by Dr. Don Spence will be based on his book, "The Plants of Canaveral National Seashore", and touch upon the different systems in the Seashore, the importance of native plants, and the problems with non-native plants.  Don Spence is an Assistant professor at Bethune-Cookman University and has been an environmental consultant since 1996.  Dr. Spence specializes in tree biology and tree diseases caused by fungal-beetle interactions.

May 10 – 10 a.m.:  Painterrific! Want to try painting but waiting for the right chance to get your bristles wet?  Unleash your inner artist and paint in a relaxed atmosphere.  Supplies are provided, registration is required.

May 14 – 10 a.m.:  Database Tuesday:  DIY Learning with Lynda.com.  Stop by for an overview of Lynda.com, a free learning resource that you can access with your Library card.  Lynda.com offers videos classes on design, photography, software, and much, much more.

May 14 – 2 p.m.:  Sinatra and Friends: A Tribute to the Crooners.  Mark Raisch presents this show which includes vocal performances along with related photographs, history, and stories.

May 16 – 2 p.m.: Stroke Prevention. May is National Stroke Prevention and Awareness Month.  Please join us as Darlene “Dee” Gillet, R.N., a Patient Nurse Navigator at Halifax Medical Center, provides information on stroke prevention, stroke symptoms, and stroke diagnosis & treatment.

May 16 – 6 p.m.:  Science Fiction Book Club. This month’s book is Ninefox Gambit by Yoon Ha Lee. 

May 21 – 2 p.m.: Master Gardener Plant Clinic. UF/IFAS Master Gardeners share gardening tips and answer questions during the plant clinic. Residents can bring their plants for a free check-up.

May 28 – 10 a.m.:  Paper Craft Club. Calling all paper crafters! Join us for a morning of paper crafting with fellow creative minds. We will provide supplies for a simple craft, or bring your own projects to work on!

May 28 – 2 p.m.:  Fourth Tuesday Tai Chi. Personal fitness instructor Ed Eisler presents a Tai Chi exercise program suitable for all levels.
