June Friends and library programs

Mondays – 9:15 a.m.: Monday Chair Yoga/Tai Chi at the Library.  Join us as certified fitness instructor Ed Eisler leads us through a Chair Yoga program, beginner thru advanced. This program repeats every Monday.

June 4 – 2 p.m.:  "Top of the World": A Tribute to the Carpenters featuring Shannon Rae and J.J. Speights. Songstress Shannon Rae and performer J.J. Speights take you back to a simpler time when the heart-felt music of the Carpenters touched so many of our lives with love.  You’ll feel on “Top of the World” after this performance!
June 4 – 10 a.m.:  Summer DIY:  Book Page Mod Podge Mug. Supplies provided, registration is required. Contact the library at 386-322-5152 option 4 to register.
June 5 – 10 a.m:  DIY Wednesday:  Make an American Flag. Make an American flag that you can take home! Supplies provided, registration is required.  Contact the library at 386-322-5152 option 4 to register.
June 11 – 10 a.m.:  Database Tuesday—Open Up a World of Reading with Novelist. If you enjoy reading, this is the database for you!!  Stop by for an overview of Novelist, a resource that provides read-a-likes, thematic book lists, and much more.  Registration is required. Contact the library at 386-322-5152 option 4 to register.
June 11 – 2 p.m.:  Tales from the Sandcastle Storytellers. Members of Sandcastle Storytellers will share literary, true and humorous tales from 2:00 to 3:00 PM on Tuesday, June 11 at the Port Orange Regional Library. They may even throw in some poetry and a whopper or two. The group, based in Volusia County, is a nonprofit group dedicated to nurturing the art of storytelling.  Registration is not required for this free program.
June 13 – 10 a.m.:  Knitting Club: Calling all knitters (and fans of other fiber arts), we’ve started a knitting club! Socialize and share your wisdom! Everyone from never-held-a-needle-novice to advanced knitters are welcome. Feel free to bring your own projects, or use our yarn and needles during the program!
June 14 – 2 p.m.:  Writer’s Workshop:  Getting Ready to Write Your Book. Dr. Mary Custureri, publisher, author, former professor, and president of the Daytona Writers Guild will present the first of the Writers Workshop series. Participants will learn tips on planning what to write; choosing a writing style; choosing a genre; researching essentials; and preparing yourself to write.
June 18 – 2 p.m.: Master Gardener Plant Clinic. UF/IFAS Master Gardeners share gardening tips and answer questions during the plant clinic. Residents can bring their plants for a free check-up.
June 20 – 6 p.m.:  Science Fiction Book Club. This month’s book is The Forever War by Joe Haldeman.
June 23 – 2 p.m.:  The Cosmos:  A Beginner’s Guide, Part One. Where did the universe come from? Where is it headed? And does it harbor intelligent life elsewhere? Today, sophisticated technology is bringing scientists closer and closer to answering those big questions. In this documentary, join veteran science educator Adam Hart-Davis and his colleagues as they meet investigators probing the very nature of the cosmos--at the edges of space, as well as right here on Earth.  82 minutes.
June 25 – 10 a.m.:  Paper Craft Club. Calling all paper crafters! Join us for a morning of paper crafting with fellow creative minds. We will provide supplies for a simple craft, or bring your own projects to work on!
June 25 – 2 p.m.:  Fourth Tuesday Tai Chi. Join us as personal fitness instructor Ed Eisler presents a Tai Chi exercise program suitable for all levels.
June 27 – 10 a.m.:  Robotics for Adults. Explore the basics of programing within the world of robotics.  Participants will discover the basics of coding using Ozobots; an optical sensor miniature robot.  Registration is required.
June 28 – 2 p.m.:  Helping Seniors Avoid Financial Exploitation. Recognize and reduce the risk of financial exploitation. Learn how you can guard yourself against identity theft and form a financial plan for the unexpected.  Presented by Casey Yokem, Financial Relationship Consultant with Regions Bank.
