July Friends and library programs

Mondays – 9:15 a.m.: Monday Chair Yoga/Tai Chi at the Library.  Join us as certified fitness instructor Ed Eisler leads us through a Chair Yoga program, beginner thru advanced. This program repeats every Monday. Please note:  This class changes to a Tai Chi class beginning in August.

July 2 – 10 a.m.:  Summer DIY:  Make a Galaxy Coaster. Celebrate a Universe of Stories as we create beautiful galaxy-themed coasters! Supplies will be provided and sign up is required.
July 5 – 10 a.m.:  Summer Movie Series: Guardians of the Galaxy.  Brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt, after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb, and the menace it poses to the cosmos; he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand---with the galaxy's fate in the balance. Rated PG-13, 121 minutes.
July 6 and July 20 – 11 a.m.:  Healthy Living Group.  Do you need to lose a few pounds, are you tired, want to reverse diabetes, or learn how to make better food choices for optimal health?  Registered Dietician Sharon Herr will lead a group discussion on the benefits of healthy living and how you can get started on the path to good health.
July 9 – 10 a.m.:  FLOW (Florida Licensing on Wheels). Do you need to renew your license, change your address, or renew your vehicle registration? Do all that (and more!) at Florida Licensing on Wheels mini unit. Fees and document requirements vary. See Reference Desk for details.
July 9 – 10:30 a.m.: Database Tuesday—Ancestry Library Edition. Have you ever wondered about your ancestry?  Learn how to begin your genealogy research with Ancestry.com Library Edition. This class is designed for beginners.  Space is limited, registration is required.
July 11 – 10 a.m.:  Knitting Club: Calling all knitters (and fans of other fiber arts), we’ve started a knitting club! Socialize and share your wisdom! Everyone from never-held-a-needle-novice to advanced knitters are welcome. Feel free to bring your own projects, or use our yarn and needles during the program!
July 12 – 10 a.m.:  Summer Movie Series:  Space Jam. Michael Jordan is "recruited" from his baseball team to help the Warner Bros. characters defeat a group of aliens in a basketball game where the stakes are their freedom for all time. Rated PG, 88 minutes.
July 12—2 p.m.:  Writer’s Workshop:  Editing your Book.  Dr. Mary Custureri, publisher, author, former professor, and president of the Daytona Writers Guild will present the second of the Writers Workshop series.
July 16 – 2 p.m.:  Moon Landing Memories.  Share your memories of the Moon Landing and enjoy a showing of Apollo 11:  A Night to Remember.  From the BBC, this documentary (115 minutes) compiles the sights, sounds, and electrifying drama of humanity’s first footsteps on the moon.
July 16 – 2 p.m.:  Ask a Master Gardener. UF/IFAS Master Gardeners share gardening tips and answer questions during the plant clinic. Residents can bring their plants for a free check-up. This month’s presentation:  How Our Summer Climate Affects Gardening.
July 17 – 9:30 a.m.:  Genealogy Lab.  Familiar with Ancestry.com, Fold3, or Heritage Quest Online but need some assistance?  Register for our Genealogy Lab.  Use our laptops or your own for dedicated genealogy research with library databases.  Space is limited and registration is required.  Walk ins welcome if space is available.
July 19 – 10 a.m.:  Summer Movie Series:  The Last Starfighter. Alex is an 18-year old Earthling who has an extraordinary talent for video game wizardry and conquers the Starfighter game. He is then recruited by alien Centauri to be part of an elite legion of fighters. Leaving behind his trailer park existence, he heads to the outer regions of space. Alex becomes the last hope for the beleaguered Star League and hundreds of worlds, including Earth.  Rated PG, 101 minutes.
July 19 – 2 p.m.:  The Story of Manatees. Cora Berchem of the Save the Manatee Club presents information about manatees and about the efforts of the Save the Manatee Club to protect this gentle creature and their habitat.
July 23 – 2 p.m.:  Fourth Tuesday Tai ChiLAST SESSION. Join us as personal fitness instructor Ed Eisler presents a Tai Chi exercise program suitable for all levels.  Join us Mondays at 9:15am for Tai Chi starting in August 2019.
July 26 – 10 a.m.:  Summer Movie Series:  Solo: A Star Wars Story.  Years before he met Luke and Leia, before he helped overthrow the Emperor, Han Solo started where all heroes start: at the bottom. Join your most favorite scoundrel in the galaxy on an adventure you'll never forget! Throughout his death-defying adventures among the criminal scum of the Star Wars Universe, Han will meet the one who will become his closest ally, Chewbacca! Watch as Han matches wits with the infamous gambler Lando! Follow Han on the journey that will put him on course to his destiny. Rated PG-13, 135 minutes.
July 30 – 10 a.m.:  Paper Craft Club. Calling all paper crafters! Join us for a morning of paper crafting with fellow creative minds. We will provide supplies for a simple craft, or bring your own projects to work on!
July 30 – 2 p.m.:  Living by the Stream.  Living By The Stream, featuring Sarah and Steve Dowell, is a professional string-based group, melding the sounds of violin, vocals, and guitar. The members highlight the performance of original compositions, but also play a wide variety of arrangements. The ensemble enjoys incorporating and fusing a wide variety of styles in their performances, such as jazz, classical, bluegrass, and Irish.  They seek to bridge the gap between these unique genres, bringing listeners an enjoyable contrast of styles as well as an engaging and unique performance.
