This October at the Library

 All about Physical Balance with Thomas Physical Therapy. 11 a.m. Monday, October 10.  Join us as a representative from Thomas Physical Therapy speaks on the importance of physical balance.  Balance keeps you upright, allows you to walk without assistance and helps prevent injury.  Frank Sinatra and Friends. 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 11. Mark Raisch takes you back to the Paramount theater and through the years to Las Vegas as you listen to the songs of Frank Sinatra. The performance will also include the music of Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, Bobby Darin, Michael Buble and more!  Introduction to Alzheimer's Disease. 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, Auditorium II. This education program will help you recognize common signs of the disease in yourself and others and next steps to take, including how to talk to your doctor. Learn basic information on the difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia, stages, risk factors, research and FDA-approved treatments.  An Introduction to Tai Chi. 2 p.m. Friday, October 14. Learn what Tai Chi is and follow along in this introduction to the ancient art of Tai Chi with instructor Bruce McKnight  Mr. McKnight will introduce the martial art of Tai Chi, specifically the Pai Lum System.  All about the Council on Aging of Volusia County. 11 a.m. Monday, October 17. Join us as Doreen Willett from the Council on Aging of Volusia County gives an overview of services offered to Volusia County seniors. COA is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing services that enable Volusia County seniors to maintain their independence and remain in their own homes.  Flu Shots from Walgreens. 1 p.m.to 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 18. You don't have to wait in line at your health care provider for a Flu Shot!  Walgreens will be here from 1-3 p.m. this day only to provide Flu Shots, free with most insurance providers.  Please bring your insurance information. While you’re here, pick up one of our "Health Fair in a Bag" kits (while supplies last). Please note this event is for Flu shots only.  Please see your health care provider or visit your nearest Walgreens for other vaccines.  Ask a Master Gardener.  2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 18.  UF/IFAS Master Gardeners will share gardening tips and answer questions during the Ask a Master Gardener session.  Paper Craft Club plus Adult Coloring. 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 25Come express your creativity and design something beautiful! Paper crafters of all skill levels are welcome and are encouraged to share their knowledge and skills with others. Use our supplies or feel free to bring your own!  Genealogy Interest Group. 9:30 a.m. Friday, October 28. This is an informal space where you can meet and work with other family historians in a small group setting. Basic assistance with genealogy research is available. Feel free to bring your own laptop or device.  Please call 386-322-5152, option 4 to reserve a library laptop.  A very limited number are available for reservation, so call soon!  Reservations are not required to attend the session.
