June events at the Port Orange Regional Library

 

Port Orange library offers free programs for adults in June.

The Port Orange Regional Library, 1005 City Center Circle, will offer a variety of fun and informative programs in June, sponsored by the Friends of the Port Orange Library. Stop by one of these free programs to meet new friends and learn a new skill or two. DIY Home, Health, and Body. 11 a.m. Thursday, June 1. Long week worn you out? Come and join us as we create one or two skincare, cosmetic, and homecare products while learning the health benefits of the ingredients used, all in a relaxed environment. Registration is required.

The Thrill of the Grill – Turn Your Patio into a Gourmet Restaurant. 2 p.m. Thursday, June 1.   All the tips and hints you’ll need to elevate your grilling from ‘ho-hum’ to ‘oh my!’ Whether it’s steaks, chicken, veggies or dessert, learn the secrets of the great grilling masters.  Presented by Chef Warren Caterson.

The History of the Horse. 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 6. Dr. Ava Lapham, co-manager of Innovation Arabians, will discuss the history of the horse during this presentation. Learn about the origins of the horse, from its ancestors, through domestication, to the foundation breeds of the horses of today. Learn the role horses have played in modern society including the various equine sports. Learn how YOUR favorite breed came to be!

Trivia Night. 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 7. Do you know random facts and information? Do you like to test your knowledge against others? If so, this is the event for you. Come test the limits of your knowledge during our general trivia night at the Port Orange Regional Library.

Sing All Together Now with the Jackson Creek Band. 2 p.m. Thursday, June 8. Jackson Creek Band will bring you sing-alongs, folk music, fiddle tunes, mild bluegrass and some of Joe Waller's original songs of family, rivers, mountains and more! They sing...and play guitar, fiddle, bass and musical saw!

Plight of the Monarch. 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 13. Butterfly expert Jim West will discuss the migration patterns, population dispersion, and life cycle of monarch butterflies as well as how to attract all types of butterflies to your Florida garden.

Living Your Best Life. 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 14. The Port Orange Regional Library presents a monthly health and wellness series facilitated by Anne S. Tracy, R.N. of Halifax Health. The June topic is Exercise Your Brain. Even our brain needs exercise! Learn simple and fun tips to keep us thinking young.

Paint-errific. 2 p.m. Friday, June 16 and 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 17. Whether you’ve just begun painting or have never tried before, this class is for you. Learn to paint a themed painting during one of these identical classes. (The same painting will be taught on both dates). Spaced is limited. Reservations are required.

 Introduction to Cricut. 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 20. Have you heard about the Cricut, but are curious as to what it can actually do? Learn all about the Cricut during this informational presentation. Topics covered include: the types of Cricut machines, additional tools available, and how to create a project.

Ask a Master Gardener.  2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 20.  UF/IFAS Master Gardeners will share gardening tips and answer questions during the Ask a Master Gardener session. Residents can bring their plants for a free check-up.

Digital Downloads Drop-In Clinic. 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 22. Did you know that you can download library eBooks, eAudiobooks, movies and television shows, music and comics to your phone, eReader tablet or computer? Drop by to receive assistance with using our digital collection. Bring your device and your questions.

Genealogy Interest Group. 2 p.m. Friday, June 23. This is an informal space where you can meet and work with other family historians in a small group setting. Basic assistance with genealogy research is available. Feel free to bring your own laptop or device.  Please call to reserve a library laptop.  A very limited number are available for reservation, so call soon!  Reservations are not required to attend the session.

Paper Craft Club plus Adult Coloring. 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 27Come express your creativity and design something beautiful! Paper crafters of all skill levels are welcome and are encouraged to share their knowledge and skills with others. Use our supplies or feel free to bring your own!

All Together Now Trivia. 2 p.m. Friday, June 30. Grab a friend or make some new friends and celebrate the summer theme of “all together now” during this special trivia challenge where every round is focused on friends and friendship.
