September 2023 Programs

The Port Orange Regional Library, 1005 City Center Circle, will offer a variety of fun and informative programs, sponsored by the Friends of the Port Orange Library, in September. Stop by one of these free programs to meet new friends and learn a new skill or two. For more information, please call the library at 386-322-5152, option 4.

Trivia Night. 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 6. Do you know random facts and information? Do you like to test your knowledge against others? If so, this is the event for you. Come test the limits of your knowledge during our general trivia night at the Port Orange Regional Library.

DIY Home, Health, and Body. 11 a.m. Thursday, September 7. Long week worn you out? Come and join us as we create one or two skincare, cosmetic, and homecare products while learning the health benefits of the ingredients used in a relaxed environment. Registration is required.

Friends of the Library Book Sale. 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, September 8 and Saturday, September 9. You’ll find gently used books, dvds, vhs tapes, magazines, puzzles, and more at this book sale, sponsored by the Friends of the Port Orange Library.  All proceeds benefit the library including library programming.

Living Your Best Life: A Monthly Health and Wellness Series. 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 13. Anne S. Tracy, R.N. of Halifax Health, provides information related to your health and wellbeing. September’s topic is Aromatherapy. What if we could change our mood, increase our alertness, become calm, relaxed, and improve our well-being? It’s possible! One simple drop at a time.

A Tribute to John Denver. 2 p.m. Thursday, September 14. Sit back, relax and let yourself go wherever the music takes you (as John used to say) in this intimate and truly incredible music performance from local musician Carl Bennett. Mr. Bennett has been described as the “real deal” when it comes to capturing John Denver’s musical likeness and his tribute is truly a walk down memory lane.

Paint-errific. 2 p.m. Friday, September 15 and 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 16. Whether you've just begun painting or have never tried before, this class is for you. Learn to paint a sunset themed image during one of these identical classes. (The same painting will be taught both days). Space is limited. Reservations are required. 

Pirate Week. Tuesday, September 19 through Saturday, September 23. The Discovery Channel has Shark Week but the Port Orange Regional Library has Pirate Week! Starting September 19, the internationally recognized Talk Like a Pirate Day, the Port Orange Regional Library will have programs highlighting our Mango Languages database and, yes, pirates. Stop by the Port Orange Regional Library to find Pirate games, puzzles, a schedule of activities including a movie marathon and an adult craft program, and even a photo op with Captain Jack.

Exploring the Underwater World. 2 p.m. Thursday, September 21. Spruce Creek Scuba dive shop will present an overview of getting started with scuba and snorkeling, including showing equipment and discussing certification requirements. They will then take us on a photographic journey of the Underwater World, not just in Florida but across the globe.

Perfect Your Pirate Chatter with Mango Languages. 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 19. Ahoy Mateys!  Celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day and learn about our Mango Languages database, where you can learn to speak Pirate as well as over seventy other languages. Mango uses real-life situations and actual conversations to more effectively teach a new language. Registration is recommended.

Cricut Class: Paper Luminaries. 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 19. Learn to create a beautiful fall luminary using the cricut machine. Space is limited. Reservations are required.

Ask a Master Gardener.  2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 19.  Plan a fall vegetable garden with a Master Gardener. UF/IFAS Master Gardeners will share gardening tips and answer questions during the Ask a Master Gardener session. Residents can bring their plants for a free check-up. 

Genealogy Interest Group. 2 p.m. Friday, September 22. This is an informal space where you can meet and work with other family historians in a small group setting. Basic assistance with genealogy research is available. Feel free to bring your own laptop or device.  Please call 386-322-5152, option 4 to reserve a library laptop.  A very limited number are available for reservation, so call soon!  Reservations are not required to attend the session.

Protecting Florida’s Marine Mammals. 2 p.m., Thursday, September 28. Learn about the history and biology of the Florida Manatee and other Florida marine mammals and hear about some of the threats they face in this program presented by Debbie Wright of the Manatee Protection Program. Attendees will learn how organizations are working to help preserve these animals and their habitat.

Paper Craft Club plus Adult Coloring. 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 26Come express your creativity and design something beautiful! Paper crafters of all skill levels are welcome and are encouraged to share their knowledge and skills with others. Use our supplies or feel free to bring your own!
