Port Orange library offers free programs in January
The Port Orange Regional Library, 1005 City
Center Circle, will offer a variety of fun and informative programs, sponsored
by the Friends of the Port Orange Library, in January. Stop by one of these
free programs to meet new friends and learn a new skill or two. For more

Trivia Night. 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 3. Do you
know random facts and information? Do you like to test your knowledge against
others? If so, this is the event for you. Come test the limits of your
knowledge during our general trivia night at the Port Orange Regional Library.
DIY Home, Health, & Body. 11 a.m. Thursday, January 4. Long week worn you out? Come and join us as we create one or two skincare, cosmetic, and homecare products while learning the health benefits of the ingredients used in a relaxed environment
LinkedIn Learning. 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 10. Do you have a tech hobby? Learn how to use our LinkedIn Learning database during National Hobby Month to brush up on skills such as graphic design, music and video production, image and video editing, and 3D animation. Registration is required for this free class.
Living Your Best Life. 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 10. Anne S. Tracy, R.N. of Halifax Health will present a talk focusing on stroke prevention for seniors. Come join us to discover how to prevent a stroke, learn the warning signs of a stroke and learn how to fight back against this common “brain attack”.
Bike Trails of Central Florida. 2 p.m. Thursday, January 11. Looking to discover new bike trails here in Central Florida? German snowbird and biking enthusiast Edith Kohlbach will describe the trails including their locations, their difficulty, and the animal life you may encounter on your rides. Stop in to discover how Edith fell in love with the wonderful trails of Florida, from flying, to birding, to biking.
Cricut Craft: Snowflake Mirror. 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 16. Assemble a snowflake decorated mirror that can be used as a candle holder and learn how to create your own using the cricut machine. Supplies are limited and registration is required.
Ask a Master Gardener: Salt Tolerant Plants. 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 16. Are the plants in your yard salt tolerant? We live near the ocean so let’s discuss which plants will thrive in your landscape. UF/IFAS Master Gardeners will also share gardening tips and answer questions during the Ask a Master Gardener session. Residents can bring their plants for a free check-up.
Local Singer Lucy Spotts. 2 p.m. Thursday, January 18. Lucy Spotts is a local singer, songwriting surfer, based out of Volusia County! She is well loved throughout the Central East Coast where you may find her singing barefoot at local establishments with her guitar, reading a book at a nearby Cafe, or surfing the Inlet. She puts her own clear flare into well-loved and familiar songs: oldies, country, pop, rock, indie, worship, in addition to her own originals. Her catchy country original, "Fishin' Spot", is getting radio time and is her most requested song
Tabletop Roleplaying Game. 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 17. The Port Orange Library is hosting a Tabletop Roleplaying Game with a winter murder-mystery theme. Join us to uncover the disappearance of the Lady of Greenglass Manor.
Community Music Jam. 2 p.m. Friday, January 19. This is an opportunity for musicians, beginners and veterans, to join a traditional jam circle and play along with others. Anyone with a guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, dulcimer, or anything unplugged is free to join in. Tunes will be preselected for this nonperformance event.
The St. Johns River Water Management District. 11 a.m. Monday, January 22. Join us as Laura La Beur, Education and Outreach Coordinator for the St. Johns River Water Management District, presents an overview of the District including information about water resources, programs, and projects. The St. Johns River Water Management District focuses its work on ensuring a long-term supply of drinking water and on protecting and restoring the health of water bodies.
Surviving Jamestown. 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 23. Marcea Oetting is a member of the Daughters of American Revolution and several other various historical groups. She is the current regent of the Adams-Onis Treaty Chapter in Florida. She acquired her Bachelors in History at the University of Iowa and hopes to bring history to life for those who listen to her performances. She will perform a 25-minute one woman play, then answer questions and provide information on the starving winter of Jamestown.
All About Creativebug. 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 24. Join us during National Hobby Month and discover the library’s crafting database Creativebug! Creativebug contains video classes in painting, knitting, crafting, sewing and more. Registration is required for this free program.
Genealogy Interest Group. 2 p.m. Friday, January 26. This is an informal space where you can meet and work with other family historians in a small group setting. Basic assistance with genealogy research is available. Feel free to bring your own laptop or device. Please call 386-322-5152, option 4 to reserve a library laptop. A very limited number are available for reservation, so call soon! Reservations are not required to attend the session.
Paper Craft Club. 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 30. Come express your creativity and design something beautiful! Paper crafters of all skill levels are welcome and are encouraged to share their knowledge and skills with others. Use our supplies or feel free to bring your own!
Career OneSource Workshop. 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 31. Learn about the resources offered by Career OneSource and receive help with your job search. Registration is required.
