April Programs at the Library

The Port Orange Regional Library, 1005 City Center Circle, will offer a variety of fun and informative programs, sponsored by the Friends of the Port Orange Library, in April. Who Really Wrote as Will Shakespeare. 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2. In this National Poetry Month presentation, award-winning author, actor and director Ron Destro will present primary source documents that may prove that the Bard of Avon was not the man from Stratford, but someone else. Has this mystery been solved?  Stop by to hear the evidence.

All about Reiki. 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 2. Learn all about this energy healing technique from REIKI Master Joy Sagar. REIKI promotes relaxation and helps to reduce stress and anxiety.

High Tea Fascinators. 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 3. Ever wanted to learn how to make that fancy headpiece that the ladies in Bridgerton and Pride & Prejudice wear? Well now is your chance to make your very own! Come learn how to make a fascinator (a formal headpiece that is an alternative to a hat) and be sure to wear them at our upcoming CommuniTea party on April 13th! Supplies are limited and registration is required.

Tote Bag Craft. 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3. Create a stylish bird themed tote bag that pays homage to the Dellawisp. Registration is required.

DIY Home, Health, & Body. 11 a.m. Thursday, April 4. Long week worn you out? Come and join us as we create one or two skincare, cosmetic, and homecare products while learning the health benefits of the ingredients used in a relaxed environment

They All Have a Story. 2 p.m. Thursday, April 4. Your ancestors all have a story to tell and it is your duty to find it. Learn how to find, compile, and use information to tell the story of their lives during this presentation by Miles Meyer, Family History Consultant and Director of the Vero Beach Family History Center.

Trivia Night. 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4. Do you know random facts and information? Do you like to test your knowledge against others? If so, this is the event for you. Come test the limits of your knowledge during our general trivia night at the Port Orange Regional Library.

Fiber Arts Club. 2 p.m. Friday, April 5. Do you knit? Crochet? Quilt? Weave? Embroider? Felt? Join us for our first gathering of fiber artists. Bring your own project and join us for a casual meet-up to work on projects and have some fun. Please note that this is not an instructional workshop.

Recipe & Reads: Millionaire Pie. 2 p.m. Friday, April 5. Learn how to create the delicious, sweet cool-whippy pie that Mac makes Zoey for her 19th birthday.

Spooky Movie Fest. Saturday, April 6. Get ready for a spooky day with a movie marathon of films featuring ghosts!

Cricut Craft: Family Recipe Binder. 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9. Create a beautiful binder to store your favorite family recipes using the Cricut machine. Registration is required.

 All about the Council on Aging. 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9. Join us as Doreen Willett from the Council on Aging of Volusia County gives an overview of services offered to Volusia County seniors with a focus on the Caregiver Respite Program. COA is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing services that enable Volusia County seniors to maintain their independence and remain in their own homes.

Living Your Best Life. 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 10. Anne S. Tracy, R.N. of Halifax Health will present a talk focusing on caregivers. 

All about Tarot. 2 p.m. Thursday, April 11. Learn the basics of Tarot including how to begin reading cards for friends and family and how to cultivate this spiritual tool for yourself.

CommuniTea Party. 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13. Join us for afternoon tea at the library! Learn about tea party etiquette, listen to live music, enjoy crafts and activities, and relax at the social tables while enjoying some light refreshments and entertainment.

Ask a Master Gardener: Raised Bed Gardening. 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 16. Master Gardener Kathy Fletcher will show us an easy way to build raised beds in our yards, and also discuss how to prepare the soil and determine which plants to grow in the raised beds. UF/IFAS Master Gardeners will also share gardening tips and answer questions during the Ask a Master Gardener session. Residents can bring their plants for a free check-up.

Scams and Flams—Seniors vs Crime. 2 p.m. Thursday, April 18. Join us as a representative of the Seniors vs. Crime project discusses techniques to prevent being a victim of scams. Attendees will also learn about the project’s history and how to file a complaint.  Seniors vs. Crime is a Special Project of the Florida Attorney General.

Community Music Jam. 2 p.m. Friday, April 19. This is an opportunity for musicians, beginners and veterans, to join a traditional jam circle and play along with others. Anyone with a guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, dulcimer, or anything unplugged is free to join in. Tunes will be preselected for this nonperformance event.

Tabletop Roleplaying Game. 2 p.m. Saturday, April. 20. The Port Regional Library is hosting a tabletop roleplaying game based on the legendary game Dungeons and Dragons! Something sinister stirs in the jungle. When a vicious clan attacks an archaeological dig site, the players are the only ones who can stop them. The party must enter the dangerous wilds and find the basilisk clan’s hidden temple – before they strike again. This program is intended for ages 18 years and older.

Career OneSource Workshop. 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 24. Learn about the resources offered by Career OneSource and receive help with your job search. Registration is required.

Poetry Writing Workshop. 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25. Celebrate National Poetry Month by attending a poetry writing workshop! Join us as poet Marc Davidson of the Live Poets Society of Daytona Beach provides tips and leads us through poetry writing exercises. Registration is required.

Genealogy Interest Group. 2 p.m. Friday, April 26. This is an informal space where you can meet and work with other family historians in a small group setting. Basic assistance with genealogy research is available. Feel free to bring your own laptop or device.  Please call 386-322-5152 to reserve a library laptop.  A very limited number are available for reservation, so call soon!  Reservations are not required to attend the session.

 Paper Craft Club. 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 30. Come express your creativity and design something beautiful! Paper crafters of all skill levels are welcome and are encouraged to share their knowledge and skills with others. Use our supplies or feel free to bring your own!
