June Library Programs

 Port Orange Library offers free programs in June

The Port Orange Regional Library, 1005 City Center Circle, will offer a variety of fun and informative programs, sponsored by the Friends of the Port Orange Library, in June. Stop by one of these free programs to meet new friends and learn a new skill or two. For more information, please call the library at 386-322-5152.

Florida or Bust. 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 4. Find fun travel ideas and day-trips throughout Florida with East Coast Current co-owner and photojournalist Kelsey Walters. Kelsey has spent the last 14 years traveling the state alongside her family and documenting unique experiences for her readers. Kelsey will give tips on her favorite off-the-beaten-path destinations that will fill your summer with adventure.

DIY Home, Health, & Body. 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6. Long week worn you out? Come and join us as we create one or two skincare, cosmetic, and homecare products while learning the health benefits of the ingredients used in a relaxed environment. Registration is required.

A Musical Journey Through Florida. 2 p.m. Thursday, June 6. Join us as Chris Kahl presents “A Musical Journey Through Florida.” His presentation consists of original songs and stories highlighting the state’s culture and history.

Trivia Night. 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 6. Do you know random facts and information? Do you like to test your knowledge against others? If so, this is the event for you. Come test the limits of your knowledge during our general trivia night at the Port Orange Regional Library.

Fiber Arts Club. 2 p.m. Friday, June 7. Do you knit? Crochet? Quilt? Weave? Embroider? Felt? Join us for our gathering of fiber artists. Bring your own project and join us for a casual meet-up to work on projects and have some fun. Please note that this is not an instructional workshop.

Amazing Race. Noon Tuesday, June 11. The Port Orange Regional Library will be hosting its very own Amazing Race! Come test your mettle with your family or a friend to see who can race around the world and complete the challenges in the least amount of time. Registration is required.

Recipes & Reads: Tiramisu Overnight Oats. 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 11. Learn how to create a delicious “dessert for breakfast” in this cooking demonstration. Samples will be provided while supplies last. Recipes & Reads was funded under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Florida's LSTA program is administered by the Department of State's Division of Library and Information Services.

Living Your Best Life. 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 12. Anne S. Tracy, R.N. of Halifax Health will present a talk focusing on safety tips for seniors. 

All about Auto Repair Source. 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 13. Learn how to find tips to get your car ready for summer travel in this class. Auto Repair Source provides accurate and up-to-date service and repair information for thousands of domestic and imported vehicles. Registration is required.

Turtles and Tortoises Around the World. 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13. Visit the Port Orange library where zookeeper and educator Zach Marchetti of the Brevard County Zoo will be giving a presentation on turtles and tortoises and about how important they are for our beaches!

Paint-errific. 2 p.m. Friday, June 14 and 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15. Whether you've just begun painting or have never tried before, this class is for you. Learn to paint a themed image during one of these identical classes. (The same painting will be taught both days). Space is limited. Reservations are required. 

Tabletop Roleplaying Game. 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15. The Port Orange Regional Library is hosting a tabletop roleplaying game based on the legendary game Dungeons and Dragons! This program is intended for ages 18 years and older.

Donuts with Dad: A Recipes & Reads Event. 12:30 p.m. Sunday, June 16. Come celebrate Father's Day with use and the man in your life by taking him out for a donut date! Recipes & Reads was funded under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Florida's LSTA program is administered by the Department of State's Division of Library and Information Services.

Cricut Program. 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 18. Assemble a beautiful craft with items created with the cricut machine and learn about the many things you can create with a cricut. Registration is required.

Paper Craft Club. 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 25. Come express your creativity and design something beautiful! Paper crafters of all skill levels are welcome and are encouraged to share their knowledge and skills with others. Use our supplies or feel free to bring your own!

 History of Plane Transportation. 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 25. Dr Leo Murphy, a professor of aeronautical science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, will provide an introductory lecture on the rich history of airlines in the United States. We will explore the growth of early airlines, the evolution of the commercial airliner, the establishment of air routes, and the significant role played by air mail in shaping the airline industry.

Armchair Traveler: Google Arts and Culture. 2 p.m. Thursday, June 27. Tour the world’s greatest cultural institutions from your living room with Google Arts and Culture.  This free website and app will give you access to stunning visuals and information about the world’s greatest treasures.

Genealogy Interest Group. 2 p.m. Friday, June 28. This is an informal space where you can meet and work with other family historians in a small group setting. Basic assistance with genealogy research is available. Feel free to bring your own laptop or device. Please call 386-322-5152 to reserve a library laptop. A very limited number are available for reservation, so call soon!  Reservations are not required to attend the session.
