Library's Annual Community Health Fair and Lectures on October 10!

The Port Orange Regional Library, 1005 City Center Circle, will offer a variety of informative health programs, sponsored by the Friends of the Port Orange Library, on October 10, 2023, as part of our annual Community Health Fair. Stop by our community health organization tables, too, and don’t forget to get your flu shot provided by Walgreens (insurance information required) between presentations! The Lions Club will also offer vision and blood sugar screenings during the event.

Noon Kick-Off: All about Chair Yoga. Did you know that not all chair yoga is the same? Yoga instructor and educator Sandy Reid will discuss knowing your body and its issues, the importance of breathing and awareness, posture alignment for safe movement, and how yoga can help you to maintain mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. She will also guide us through basic and essential daily stretches.

1 p.m.: Sports Medicine Physicians: A Vital Role in Our Community. Sports Medicine Physicians specialize in preventing, diagnosing and treating injuries and/or conditions. While these physicians help those with active lifestyles, they aren't only exclusive to athletes. Learn how individuals of all ages and fitness levels can lead healthier lifestyles through safe exercise and mindful nutrition.

1:45 p.m.: The Importance of a Personalized Medical Fitness Program. Dr. Trevor Shaw of Palmer College of Chiropractic will discuss the importance of developing a program that fits your personal medical and fitness goals along with guidelines for everyone looking to bring their health and fitness to a new level.

2:30 p.m.: All about Medicare. Learn about the Medicare options that are available to you in this presentation from SHINE advocate Carrie Ann Petesch. SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs for Elders) is a free program offered by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs.

3:15 p.m.: Line Dancing.  Get fit and have fun at any age on the dance floor by learning energetic line dances with choreographer Joe Parilla.
